What is surgical/induced menopause?

Natural menopause is when your ovarian function declines on it's own due to aging. In contrast, induced menopause is when a premenopausal woman is put into a premature menopause due to the administration of certain medications (such as some chemotherapy agents), radiation treatment to the pelvis or surgical removal of the ovaries. Surgical menopause specifically refers to menopause induced by the removal of the ovaries.
