Does menopause interfere with your thyroid?

As we age our thyroid gland may not function correctly and, coincidentally, the dysfunction of the thyroid happens more frequently for women in their fourth decade of life. Thyroid dysfunction can cause similar symptoms as perimenopause such as, irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats and fatigue. Therefore, thyroid dysfunction can sometimes be mistaken for perimenopause. Always report any unusual changes to your doctor and ask to have your thyroid checked.
