When you embrace the passion in your life, it shows. Your eyes brighten. There’s vibrancy in your voice, and there’s a feeling of exhilaration inside you. Passion isn’t limited to the romantic arena. My friend Lenora has a passion for Italy. My mom had a passion for her profession (she’s a tax preparer and loves numbers.) What about you? What do you love to do?
Now think of all the things that stand between you and your passions. I received a comment from a woman that read, “My LBL has caused me to be less active to avoid accidents.” Maybe like her, you are someone who has a passion for an active lifestyle. Maybe you enjoy rigorous exercise; building up a sweat and feeling energy pulse through your body. And then you experience LBL. Unless you’ve had it happen to you, it’s hard to understand how embarrassing it can feel to have an unexpected leak when you’re out in public. (Been there. Done that.)
Like the lady who wrote me, you might think that slowing down your active lifestyle is your best choice. Don’t believe it. LBL can be managed, and sometimes even eliminated. The truth is, slowing down, might actually cause your LBL to worsen. You can enjoy all the benefits of an active lifestyle by learning more about your body and ways of managing LBL. If you’re like me, you exercise but it is NOT your passion. Maybe you have a passion for playing with your kids, dancing to your favorite music, or gardening. Is LBL dampening your passion? It may help to know that one in three women experience LBL and there are places where you can reach out and talk with them, compare notes, and keep the fires lit on those things that bring you joy.
To help me get some perspective on how women feel about passion, I connected with six of my most vibrant girlfriends. I asked them, “When you think about embracing the passion in your life, what comes up for you?” Here’s what they said:
"After the naughty things (couldn't resist that!), I think about building your life around things that bring you joy and that energize you when you do them."
"Don’t be afraid of the things that excite you. "
"Love what you do and do what you love."
"Taking a day off. (Work to live, instead of living to work.)"
"Love, happiness, and fulfillment."
Reading their responses inspired me to notice where I might be holding myself back so I can experience more joy in my life.
How about you? Are you finding ways to manage LBL while fully embracing the passion in your life? If not, what’s holding you back?
