Why do I wake up several times a night now?

There are several hormones that help regulate sleep, all of which decline during midlife and menopause. They are estrogen, progesterone and melatonin. Estrogen and progesterone are ovarian hormones and melatonin is produced by the pineal gland in the brain. All three of these hormones can contribute to sleep disturbances during menopause.
