My mother and I have always had a difficult relationship and now that I'm suffering mood swings, we get along even worse! I know it's up to me, so how can I find compassion for her, in spite of my hormones?!?

While you may have a difficult time with your mom under any circumstance, this time may be particularly challenging. Your fuse may be a bit shorter, and as a result, you may react more emotionally to everyone around you. Give yourself a break. But remember, during menopause, you may feel you have something in common with your mom that may draw you closer. We all go through it, regardless of our differences. Perhaps you can use this shared experience as an opportunity to talk more openly to one another. Ask your mom about how she managed menopause when she was your age. You might be surprised that she may be able to give you some helpful advice. Who knows, this may be a time that you bond with your mom if you share this challenging experience together.
