Training Your Bladder

lady doctor

The purpose of retraining your bladder is to improve your bladder control and increase the amount of urine your bladder can hold without urgency or leakage.

The first step is to complete a 7–day bladder diary to get basic information about your bladder weakness. By doing this you and your doctor will be able to set personal bladder training goals for your program.

Based on the information you’ve provided in your bladder diary, your doctor or health care professional will then develop a bladder training program tailored to your needs. The aim of your bladder training program is to teach you to hold on longer between visits to the toilet. At the start of your training, learning to ‘hold on’ may prove difficult, but you’ll eventually notice that holding on becomes much easier the more you practice.
